Serious Crash Closes Section Of Route 83 In Vernon Friday

A serious motor vehicle crash in Vernon and a downed wire on a detour route caused traffic mayhem in Vernon Friday.

VERNON, CT — A serious motor vehicle crash on Friday afternoon left one person with life-threatening injuries and a section of Route 83 closed, police said. A downed cable wire along the detour route made traffic even worse, police said.

Route 83 was closed between Merline and Dobson roads and responders were expected to be there through the evening commute and possibly into Friday night, police said.

The crash was on Route 83 near Hockanum Boulevard, police said. It took place shortly before 3 p.m., police said.

One of those involved suffered life-threatning injuries, police said. He was being described as an "adult male" and was taken to Hartford Hospital by ambulance, police said.

A second person involved as an "adult female" and she was taken to Manchester Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Metro Traffic Services was at the scene with Vernon police investigating.

At 4:31 p.m., a cable wire on the Merline Road came down and more units responded to that area.
