Serious Crash Closes Segment of Busy Vernon Road
LifeStar helicopter was called to the scene.
VERNON, CT — Route 83 in Vernon was closed for several hours in both directions at Merline Road following a serious crash Tuesday, police reported.
An eastbound white full-size Ford Econoline van carrying carpet collided with an Infiniti sedan and slammed head-on into a traffic light stanchion at the intersection of Talcottville and Merline roads, according to Patch editor Chris Dehnel, who was at the scene.
LifeStar helicopter was called to the scene, and landed in the parking of the nearby Tractor Supply store. The van driver, Angel Avila, 46, of Bristol, was transported via air to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, and was listed in critical condition Wednesday.
