Pedestrian Dies After Accident On Route 83 In Vernon
Police rushed to a section of Route 83 on Wednesday on reports of a pedestrian being hit by a pickup.

VERNON, CT — A pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck in front of two housing complex driveways on Route 83 in Vernon and later died, police said.
The crash took place at 3:31 p.m., near 642 Talcottville Road, the local address for that section of Route 83. The Countrywood and Vernon Gardens apartment complexes and the Woodmere Place condo complex are at the location.
First-responders found what police are describing as an "adult female" in cardiac arrest, according to a report. CPR was initiated and the woman was transported by ambulance to Rockville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

An initial investigation indicated a pickup truck driven by an "adult male" was traveling northbound on Route 83 and struck the woman. The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
The incident remained under investigation two hours later and no charges had been filed as of Wednesday night.

The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin, police said.
A Metro Traffic Services Accident Reconstruction team is assisting Vernon Police with the investigation. The road was expected to remain closed into Wednesday night for the investigation.
