Several Cats Rescued From House Fire In Vernon

VERNON, CT — Several cats were rescued from a house fire in Vernon Wednesday night, fire officials said.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 p.m. on Evergreen Road. Crews from Stations 1, 2, and 3 were dispatched to the scene, along with the EMS division and Vernon police.

Firefighters encountered a working fire and the resident was able to escape without injury and crews were able to rescue several felines that were still in the home, assisted by a Vernon Animal Control officer, officials.

The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes and crews remained at the scene to check for "hot spots," officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Vernon police and the local fire marshal's office.
