VERNON, CT — The Vernon Volunteer Firefighters Association is working hard to make sure every Vernon family has a memorable Christmas.

People from throughout Vernon have been generously donating toys for children ages infant through 12, and firefighters have been sorting them to prepare for distribution on Monday, Dec. 19.

"This is really a highlight of our year," said Diane Carpenter, the fire department secretary and the longtime coordinator of the Toys for Tikes program. "We live to serve our community, and here’s a great way for our volunteers to drop in on families with something that is really positive. We just love helping our community’s families and children."
