Signs were gone quickly at a closed bank branch in Vernon's Rockville section.

VERNON, CT — It didn't take long for the signs to disappear at a closed bank branch in the Rockville section of Vernon.
On Monday morning, a crew was busy on Park Street at the United Bank-People's United Bank branch, taking down the signs, including the logo on the iconic temperature and time display that hangs over the sidewalk.
The branch officially closed at 3 p.m. on Friday as part of a consolidation plan after the takeover of United by People's United.

The automated teller machine was disconnected Friday morning amid a busy day at the Tolland County Courthouse across the street. Even Monday, with another packed courthouse, some confused folks were wondering where to access funds for court fees and fines.
The branch was doomed to close ever since the merger was announced in July. People's United Financial, Inc., the holding company for People's United Bank, acquired United Financial Bancorp, the holding company for United Bank, in a 100 percent stock transaction valued at about $759 million.

The takeover marked the demise of the "new" United Bank, which was formed by a merger of Connecticut-based Rockville Bank and Massachusetts-based United Bank in April 0f 2014.
The closest branches are now inside the Stop & Shop supermarket on Windsorville Road or in the Lafayette section of town off Route 30.
