Signs, Messages Promote Curbside And Takeout At Vernon Eateries

Signs of the times are posted all over Vernon's business corridors.

VERNON, CT — Most food establishments along the Route 83 and Route 30 corridors in Vernon have taken to homemade signs, purchased signs and social media to proclaim they are open and serving meals, with either traditional takeout or curbside pickup.

Town officials this week eased up on the zoning restrictions to allow for it. A-frame signs are allowed, as long as they do not block the sidewalk. Messages are limited to announcements that a business is open with other pertinent details.

Two of the homeade signs were fashioned by neighbors on Route 30. The iconic Rein's Deli, set back from the road at the Shops at 30 Plaza, had one next to its door that astronauts could likely see from space. Vernon diner used a spray paint and cardboard placard that practically hung into the street.

So was a sign at Anthony's at Vernon Circle. Most pizza places in Vernon like Bianna's, New England Pizza, Woodbridge, Vernon Pizza and Anthony's were getting the word out on social media that takeout was alive and well. Most deliver anyway. The same went for Chinese and Asain places.

Jamaican Kitchen made a video:

Wood-N-Tap decided to play if safe, according to a social media post:

Today we made a decision that we will immediately close all nine Wood-n-Tap restaurants until the state deems it is safe for restaurant and bar businesses to reopen. Our team has become increasingly concerned with the safety of our staff and guests, and that is more important to us than anything else. Any gain we have is not worth the risk to those still working for us or visiting our locations for pick-up.

We look forward to the day we can announce our re-opening, and we cannot wait to let you all "Come As You Are" into our doors once again. Trust we will be back and better than ever when that time comes! Wishing all of the people in all of our communities well. Thank you for your support!
