Southington Man Fudged Utility Bills in Relative's Name:Cops

He ran up hundreds in a family member's name, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington man is accused of racking up utility bills and leaving a relative facing the overdue amounts.

On March Southington police received a tip that Hayes was at a residence on Vermont Ave. and that there were active warrants for his arrest, according to an arrest report.

Officers responded to the residence and located Hayes inside, according to an arrest report.

Hayes wastaken into custody and charged with two counts third-degree identity theft, fifth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny, according to an arrest report.

The warrant alleges that in 2016 Hayes linked his home utility accounts with the name and
social security number of a family member. Two accounts went into collections and in November
2016 the Victim received a notice that there was a past due gas service bill in the amount of $168.22, police said.

In February 2017, the Victim received a notice that there was a past due power service bill in
the amount of $699.16. The family member did not give permission for Hayes to use the information
for the accounts.
