VERNON, CT — More storms this week have prompted the Thursday closure of the beaches at Bolton Lake and Valley Falls Pond in Vernon, officials said.

Routine water testing by the North Central District Health Department has revealed increased bacterial levels at Valley Falls Pond and the section of Bolton Lake at Newhoca Park due to stormwater runoff from the recent rains and it led to the "immediate closure" of the swimming areas, officials said.

The Community Pool at 375 Hartford Turnpike will be open for swimming while the beaches are closed. Swimming
hours at all locations are typically 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
