Superintendent's Challenge to Have a Veterans Day Theme

Vernon students will be making keepsakes for veterans.

The 2012-13 Superintendent's Challenge is designed to give local students a chance to give something back to local veterans.

Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway said that, in honor of Veterans Day, she is challenging all students in all local schools to write a card, letter, or create a drawing to honor those who served.

"Veterans Day honors all American veterans," she said. "The Vernon public schools would like to thank our veterans for their dedicated and loyal service to our country.

"What a great way to ensure that on November 11th our Veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices that they have made in their lives to keep our country free."

The cards, letters, and drawings will be collected on Nov 1 from each school and given to local Veterans.

The school that hands in the most cards, letters, drawings will receive the Superintendent's Challenge trophy, Conway said.
