Supermarket Purse-Snatchings in Vernon, Ellington Lead to Charges
State and Vernon police have arrested a 36-year-old woman in connection with shopping cart purse-snatching incidents.

VERNON/ELLINGTON, CT — State and Vernon police have arrested a 36-year-old woman in connection with shopping cart purse-snatching incidents at the Big Y in Ellington and Price Chopper in Vernon.
Tammy Devaux, of Vernon, was arrested by state police on a warrant Oct. 8 for fifth-degree larceny. On Sept. 10, a woman told state police she was in the floral department at Big Y, which is situated near the large main entrance and exit. The woman said that another woman ran to her cart, snatched her purse and wallet and ran off, according to a warrant.
The wallet, described in a warrant as black and white with "lizard-type skin" from Bendel, was valued at $250 and the bag, a cloth Vera Bradley, was valued at $150, according to a warrant. There were $20 in cash, credit cards and other personal items in the wallet, according to a warrant.

Vernon police had picked Devaux up on a warrant for a similar incident at the Price Chopper on the same day. She was charged with sixth-degree larceny and attempt to commit a crime locally, according to a report.
She is due in court on Oct. 23, records show.
