Suspect Charged For Vernon, Ellington Capers 3 Hours Apart

A South Windsor man has been arrested by both Vernon and state police in relation to robbery incidents just more than 3 hours apart.

VERNON, CT — A South Windsor man has been arrested by both Vernon and state police in relation to robbery incidents just more than three hours apart in January.

Joseph Richard Boughton, 24, was charged with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny for a caper at 9:13 p.m. on Jan. 21, according to a warrant.

He is accused of parking his car in front of the Subway at 53 Hartford Turnpike, casually strolling in "like a normal customer," but then demanding $100 while seemingly displaying a gun under a sweatshirt, according to a warrant.

He the fled the scene in the car, according to a warrant.

Boughton was charged by state police with criminal attempt at both first-degree robbery and sixth-dxegree larceny, a warrant states, for a botched caper at the Five Corners Cumberland Farms in Ellington.

He is accused of entering the Cumby's at 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 22 and demanding that the clerk open the cash drawer while implying he had a gun in his pocket of his hoodie, according to a warrant.
The clerk said she could not and Boughton then fled the store without taking anything, according to a warrant.

A total of $65 was in the cash drawer, according to a warrant.

He was identified after a traffic stop in Manchester, according to a warrant.
