VERNON, CT — A swerving suspected drunken driver almost made it home to Vernon over a 17-or-so-mile stretch and was then picked up a few yards from where he lived, a police report says.

At about 9:30 on Friday night, Vernon police dispatchers began getting reports about an erratic driver who had made his way to Vernon from Enfield, according to an arrest report.

The 36-year-old man was then located by Vernon police in his vehicle at an apartment complex off Route 83.

The complex showed up in a database as the man's residence, according to an arrest report.

As officers approached the vehicle, a clear odor of alcohol was present and the man failed subsequent sobriety tests and was taken into custody on a driving under the influence charge, according to an arrest report.
