Thanksgiving Night Fire In Vernon Displaces 2 Families

VERNON, CT — A Thanksgiving night fire displaced two families in the Rockville section of Vernon.

The fire broke out at about 7:30 p.m. at a multi-family home at 47 Ward St.

Responders encountered a second-floor kitchen engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene. It was quickly brought under control, fire officials said.

The cause is being investigated by the Vernon Fire Marshal's Office and the Vernon Police Department.

The American Red Cross said two families — three adults and six children — were displaced by the blaze.

The 4,168-square-foot home was built in 1900 and sits on a quarter-acre of land.
