Thanksgiving Prompting Major Changes To Vernon Trash Collections

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Department of Public Works will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Trash and recycling normally collected on Thursday will be collected a day early — on Wednesday Nov. 23, 2022.

Trash and recycling normally collected on Friday will be collected the following Monday — Nov. 28 — along with that day's regular route.

If delays occur, residents should leave carts at the curb, officials said.

The Vernon Transfer Station will be closed on Wednesday Nov. 23.

Excess trash and recycling can be brought to the Vernon Transfer Station at 12 Hockanum Boulevard free of charge (permits and punchcards are not required) year-round. Normal hours of operation are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
