The Skinny on Fine Hair Care Products

Summer has a way of making the time fly by.  Call me crazy - but for ten months out of the year, I look forward to July and August.  For those ten months, time DRAGS!! And then July and August are over before I even know they were here!

This July the Velvet Touch gained a salon mascot, as I welcomed my daughter into the world.  Healthy, beautiful, and the greatest blessing I could ever imagine.  I have heard clients in the Salon talk about their hair texture changing post-baby, and never realized how intense this can be!! I have always had fine hair, but I feel as though it has gotten even more fine since little miss has arrived.

Before I go any further, I should say that this could be the sign of something greater going on and you should contact your doctor if you have any concerns! Seriously, they are there to help… call them!!

For those (like me) who have naturally fine hair, sometimes you need a little boost.  Lets face it, every picture in the magazines are full of models with full voluptuous locks.  Who wouldn't want that?? There are two options which I have tried to get these results - extensions and Redken’s IntraForce System.

Extensions make you feel like a million bucks!! Velvet Touch’s Jamie Patten has been trained and certified in HairTreats extensions.  While there are many different methods for attaching extensions such as tape, glue, and clip in, the VT uses micro beaded wefts of hair.  The long and short of it - the extension hair is attached to your real hair by crimping a tiny bead to it towards your scalp. As your natural hair grows, the bead stays where it was placed.  Every 4-6 weeks (depending how your hair grows) the bead will need to be slid back up to where it was originally placed.  From my own experience, there is very little damage done to your hair with this method.  Big perk - the extensions can be blended into your natural hair so you can gain length over night!  And they come in dozens of colors, so they look pretty natural too!

IntraForce is a fantastic line put out by Redken which includes shampoo, toner, a scalp treatment and at home treatments.  According to Redken, within 30 days the look of fine/thinning hair will visibly improve and reduce breakage up to 95%.  As far as things to do, this is pretty darn easy.  No need to go out of your way and add time onto your morning routine for extra hair care steps.  When I used this product, the big thing that I noticed is consistency is key.   It will feel like your hair has product in it (not exactly sure which one of the steps was to thank for that) but it does feel and look noticeably thicker and fuller.

The cons to both - there is a longer time drying your hair in the morning.  I didn't realize how quick it was for me to dry my hair in the morning because it was so fine.  However, I think it was well worth it!  Have you tried either extensions or the IntarForce System?  Something else you found worked?? Would love your feedback!

Until the next time...!
