Thoughts of the non-voters

Rockville High School Creative Writing 2016 Presidential Election Blog Post

Generation Apathy
Being a 15-year-old during the current election is very interesting. All of my peers seem to have an opinion but I couldn’t care less. They feel the need to share their opinions on social media even though it’s not going to make a difference. They cannot vote and neither can I, why does our opinion matter? Politics is a puzzle that I don’t have all of the pieces to. I do not understand what they are saying half of the time and it doesn’t matter to me. This election has brought strong opinions to people who know nothing. The candidates have made it so that the voters and even non-voters have strong feelings. Some people don’t like either candidate, so they are not going to vote. This election has become our country's newest reality T.V show.
Today I asked my dad who he was going to vote for, he said that he was going to write in Spongebob. That is how most people feel because they do not like either of the candidates. They feel as if their opinions are being wasted in this situation because Trump and Clinton are not taking it seriously.
By the time that I can vote, hopefully things will be very different. I hope that there will actually be candidates worthy of running our country. I hope that they will have good plans on how to improve our economic state and fix all of the problems we have. It will be extremely relieving if the candidates have a plan to do so. I don’t think that there is any way that our generation can fix these problems, it’s up to the candidates.
