VERNON, CT — A holding company affiliated with TicketNetwork is selling the historic Talcott Brothers School building in Vernon for nearly five times what the company paid for it three years ago.

The school sits at 97 Main St. in the Talcottville section of Vernon. It is listed for $995,000 through the area brokerage Amodio & C0. In January 2019, TicketNetwork.com, purchased it for $200,000 with plans to turn it into a training center while investing $1 million to maintain the old school's historic characteristics.

Broker Frank Amodio said the coronavirus pandemic had a hand in TicketNetwork abandoning those plans.

The building was initially built in 1880 as a schoolhouse for Talcott Brothers mill employees with separate entrances for boys and girls, according to town historic records. A wing, to the right when looking at the front of the original schoolhouse, was built in the 1950s and a gym was added in the rear during the 1970s, the archives show.

The entire complex measures about 13,475 square feet. Amodio said the listing is stressing multi-family possibilities, similar to the renovated mill up the road.

Here's more on the listing:

"The Talcottville School, 1880, is a good vernacular example of the Romanesque Revival style, characterized by round-arched windows, articulated masonry, and a tall central bell tower. The Talcottville Historic District attained its present character with dwellings and public buildings constructed between 1860 and 1920. Included among the notable structures and buildings of this period is the Romanesque Revival style school building built in 1880 at 97 Main Street. The original building retains its steeply pitched gable roof with a bracketed cornice, its round-arched classroom windows and entry door, and its tall 2-1/2-story bell tower. Its entry is protected by a bracketed Stick style hood with a king post and collar tie above the door. Two 1-story additions, constructed in 1969 and 1973, are located at the northwest corner of the original building set back but not remote from the original facade."
