VERNON, CT — The transformation of a Vernon commercial parcel that has been a decade in the making along state Route 30 is just about complete.

The liquor store that was the sole occupant of the old version of the property is back open, the parking lot has been paved and it appeared to begin the week with only some touch-up work needing to be done.

The plaza sits at 1189 Hartford Turnpike, the local name for that stretch of Route 30. The Wine Seller liquor store had been located at the west end of the land and a copse of trees was at the eastern end of the parcel, bordering a strip plaza anchored by Vernon Pizza.

The liquor store now occupies roughly two-thirds of a new plaza. It was called the Wine Seller in the old building but the new sign now says "Discount Wine & Liquors Shop."

Vernon Economic Development Coordinator Shaun Gately said a tenant is being sought for the remaining third of the building.

Gately said plans have been in the works for the better part of 10 years to expand the footprint of the Wine Seller parcel. Vernon town planner George McGregor said the site plan was approved years ago and the owners finally seem ready to move on it.

Construction started last June.
