Troop C Duo Rescues Injured Hawk From Interstate 84

Two Connecticut State Troopers saved an hawk in peril Saturday.

TOLLAND/VERNON, CT — A state police tandem saved an injured hawk that was stranded in Interstate 84 over the Labor Day weekend.

It was about 2:30 p.m. Saturday when Trooper Trainee Kyle Blicharz and Field Training Officer Jonathan Neihagen were patrolling the highway near Exit 67 and the Vernon-Tolland line. Blicharz had been on the job for just more than a week.

Suddenly, call came in about an injured bird the highway. The duo then located the juvenile red hawk and safely removed it from the road.

The hawk was then relocated to Horizon Wings in Ashford for rehabilitation.
