Troopers Chase Down 100 MPH Driver on Vernon Street

A man was caught barreling down the hill from Tolland into Vernon at 100-plus mph, according to police.

VERNON, CT — State police chased down a 24-year-old driver who was speeding along the back way from Tolland into Vernon at a 100 mph clip, a report indicates.

The incident took place at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report. A trooper on Route 74 saw a car driven by Michael Oakes, of Mountain Street, Vernon, go by an better than 100 mph.

He was on a downhill, curvy stretch of dark road and made it to East Main Street in the Rockville Section of Vernon, a densely populated area, before getting pulled over, according to an arrest report.

Oakes was charged with disobeying the signal of an officer and reckless driving, state police sad.

According to an arrest report, he was also charged with possession of cannabis.
