VERNON, CT — State police had to tackle a suspected drunken driver who became uncooperative after an incident on Interstate 84 in Vernon last week at 6 in the morning, an arrest report indicates.

At 6:10 a.m. on Sept. 14, state police from the Troop C barracks received a call about a Nissan Altima hitting debris on I-84, according to an arrest report. The occupants of the Nissan said the debris came from a car that was traveling on two rims while heading west near Exits 65, according to an arrest report.

The driver of the wayward car was located standing behind the vehicle and was claiming that his car was involved in a hit-and-run crash, state police said. After failing a field sobriety test, the man tried to run from state police, but was tackled and handcuffed. He had to be taken back to Troop C via a Vernon police "caged" cruiser, according to an arrest report.
