VERNON, CT — A truck driver is facing a criminal charge after leaving his tractor-trailer and trying to retrieve a broken mirror on foot in the middle of Interstate 84 in Vernon last week, state police said.

According to a state police report, at 12:49 p.m. on June 12, troopers were on the westbound side of I-84 near Exit 65 when they saw a man, later identified as a 59-year-old truck driver, standing in the left-center lane. His presence forced the driver of a Ford transit van to slam on his brakes and the Ford was then hit from behind by a tractor-trailer which could not stop in time, according to a crash report.

No major injuries were reported.
