U.S. Lacrosse Grant Helps Spread the Game in Vernon Schools
The U.S. Lacrosse Association Soft Stick grant is making an impact in Vernon.
VERNON, CT — A U.S. Lacrosse grant is helping spread the game to Vernon students.
On Tuesday, coaches from the Vernon Lacrosse Association worked with several physical education classes at Vernon's Center Road School on the basics of the game. School officials and VLA coaches applied for the U.S. Lacrosse Soft Stick grant. The soft sticks are designed to make it easy for boys and girls to learn lacrosse.
Northeast School in Vernon also received a grant.

The US Lacrosse Soft Stick lacrosse equipment grant provides a set of soft lacrosse equipment to schools, after-school programs and community-based youth organizations. The grant provides:
- 30 soft lacrosse sticks
- 30 soft lacrosse balls
- A copy of the US Lacrosse PE Curriculum Guide and Reproducible packet
- A copy of the Teaching Soft-Stick Lacrosse DVD.
Examples of qualifying groups are schools, an existing lacrosse team, parks and recreation organizations and after-school or community-based organizations like a YMCA.
