Rail Trail Incident in Vernon Claims Life of Woman
A passerby found an 'unresponsive' woman on the Rails-to-Trails System and called police.
VERNON, CT — An woman was found unresponsive along the Rails-to-Trails system in Vernon on Tuesday morning and was rushed to the hospital, where she later died, police said.
The incident was near the cliffs at the intersection of the trail and Valley Falls Park. Someone else using the trail found her at 7:45 a.m. and called police, department spokesman Lt. William Meier said.
The woman was found on the trail at the base of a 100-foot cliff accessed by a spur off the main trail. The cliff is located a short distance toward Bolton near the 2.1-mile marker. The terrain is defined by a sharp outcropping.

Responders administered CPR and the woman was taken to Rockville General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, he said.
Police were at the scene investigating well into Tuesday morning. Meier said the death is being classified as "untimely," but said there are no indications of foul play.

Investigators found personal belongings in the vicinity. There "many" people on the trail system at the time, Meier said.
