Upbeat Outlook for 2012 RHS Volleyball Squad

The Rams are set to begin the season next week.

Rockville High School volleyball coach Kimberly Marinan put it plainly.

"Looking forward to a new season," the veteran mentor of 12 seasons said.

And why not? The Rams may have been 3-15 last season, but they were in the matches and always seemed to have fun on the court.

It's a trademark that now seems to define the program, so with a team Marinan thinks can get stronger as the season progresses, the 2012 outlook is certainly positive.

The Rams will be led by three key players, all juniors:

• Marinan said Danielle Wemmell is a strong hitter from the outside position.

• Emily Burg is also a strong hitter, the coach said, particularly from the middle.,

• Setter Amy Eitelman brings a strong serve to the court.

In all, Rockville lost four letter winners to graduation, three of them starters.

The Rams will be traveling to Storrs to take on E.O. Smith in the season opener on Sept. 11. Rockville's first home match is slated for Sept. 14 against Bloomfield. The full schedule is attached.
