Upcoming Parks and Rec Programs

Soccer and cross county are being offered.

Here is a look at some upcoming programs sponsored by the Vernon Parks and Recreation Department:

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING CLUB
The program is open to children ages 6 to 12 and is designed to teach the fundamentals of cross country. Participants will participate in fun drills and activities to develop an appreciation for running. All participants will receive a T-shirt. The program will run for four weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays and participants are required to attend one day a week, two days is preferred. The coaching staff will give you a detailed schedule the first week. Practice will take place at various trail systems in Vernon in addition to Rockville High School.

Meeting location: Rockville High School track.
Fees: $40 resident, $45 non-resident.

HIP HOP DANCE CLASS
It's a dance class for anyone ages 5 through 12. The dance students will learn choreographed routines to Hip Hop, R&B, and Latin music. The genre is good exercise.

The class is scheduled to meet Fridays at the Vernon Teen Center.

Session 1: Sept. 21 to Oct. 26.

Session 2: Nov. 2 through Dec. 14 (no class on Nov. 23).

Ages 5 through 7 will meet from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. and ages 8 through 12 will meet from 5:30-6:15 p.m.

The fees are $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents.


PEE WEE SOCCER
The co-ed program teaches the fundamentals of soccer to young players using a variety of fun drills and activities designed to develop soccer skills and a love for the game.

The program at henry Park is open to Ages 3 and 4 and 5 and 6.

The program meets Wednesdays from Sept. 12 to Oct. 17 but the schedule could change because of RHS soccer.

Ages 3 and 4 will met from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and ages 5 and 6 will meet from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

The fees are $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

SPORTS NUTZ
It's an instructional, co-ed program designed to teach the fundamentals of four different sports - basketball, baseball, soccer and Track & Field - to young players.

The program has a focus on the most basic fundamentals of sport. All participants receive a T-shirt and the class size is limited to 20 participants.

The program at the Teen Center is open toy children ages 3 through 5.

The cost is $33 for residents and $38 for non-residents.
