VCMS Students Reach Out to USCG Unit at Boot Camp

Letter-writing to service members became a class project for some sixth-graders last week.

VERNON, CT — Vernon Center Middle School students have reached out to members of a Coast Guard unit currently enduring the rigors of boot camp.

The effort was spearheaded by sixth-grader Madison Johanson, whose brother, Zac, is in his fourth week of boot camp with the USCG in Cape May, NJ.

As of last week, Zac had sent five letters home and most letters referred to "send mail" at the end, so Madison went to her English teacher, Dianne Grimaldi, to see if her classmates could write letters to Zac or others in the Zulu 194 Unit.
