Vernon, Army Sign Hiring Pact To Guarantee Veterans Job Interviews

VERNON, CT — The town of Vernon and the U.S. Army signed an agreement last Thursday aimed at helping veterans connect with jobs in town government.

Under the agreement, veterans will get an interview and have an opportunity for all jobs the town has available.

Mayor Dan Champagne and Army Lt. Col. Micah Klein signed the agreement before a performance by the Connecticut Army National Guard 102d Army Band. The signing linked Vernon with the U.S. Army Partnership for Your Success, known as PaYS, a program described as a partnership between the Army and public and private employers.

The agreement focuses on access to employment for veterans as openings become available in Vernon. The pact guarantees that veterans get an interview and have an opportunity for all jobs the town has available.

The event also included a military ceremony involving new service members. Several young people were sworn into the Army by Klein on Thursday, adding another Army-related moment to the gathering before the music began.
