Vernon Cops Charge Resident In Sex Assault Case Involving Child
Vernon police have charged a resident with sexual assault in a case involving a child.

VERNON, CT — Vernon police on Wednesday charged a resident with sexual assault crimes involving a child.
At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Vernon Police received a 911 call from a Prospect Street multi-family residence reporting the sexual assault of a 5-year-old. Police in a warrant described the caller — the child's mother — as "hysterical" while saying another child in the home had interrupted the 5-year-old being sexually assaulted.
The suspect was identified as Angel Almodovar, 27, of the Prospect Street residence.

Almodovar fled the apartment after getting caught, but was located a short time later near Union and Orchard streets, according to a warrant. When detectives arrived, he was smoking a cigarette, claiming the accusations were false and said he was merely arguing with someone, according to a warrant.
A warrant described the child's mother as remaining distraught throughout questioning.

The state Department of Children and Families joined Vernon detectives in the case and the investigation led to a pair of arrest warrants, police said. Almodovar was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to a report.
The first warrant charged Almodovar with:
- First-degree sexual assault
- Fourth-degree sexual assault
- Illegal sexual contact with a minor
The second warrant charged Almodovar with:
- Risk of injury to a minor/impairing the morals of a child.
He was held overnight on court-set bonds totaling $200,000 and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Thursday, police said.
