Vernon Crashes: Rt. 83 Victim ID'd; Rt. 30 Driver Still Critical

Vernon Crashes: Police have identified the pedestrian killed on Route 83 and updated the condition of the driver hurt on Route 30 Wednesday.

VERNON, CT — Vernon police officially identified the pedestrian killed Wednesday afternoon after she was hit by by a pickup truck on state Route 83.

Meanwhile, the driver of a car involved in a crash with a large truck remained in critical condition at Hartford Hospital Thursday morning, police said. Police were not identifying him because they were still trying to contact family members.

The pedestrian was identified as Grazyna Grudzinska-Burek, 55, of 695 Talcottville Road.

No charges have been filed in either accident. Both crashes remain under investigation by Vernon police reconstruction teams with assistance from Metro Traffic Services. Anyone who witnessed either crash or has any information on them is being asked to call Vernon police at 860-872-9126.

The pedestrian crash took place at 3:31 p.m., near 642 Talcottville Road, the local address for that section of Route 83. The Countrywood and Vernon Gardens apartment complexes and the Woodmere Place condo complex are at the location. Grudzinska-Burek lived in the Vernon Gardens complex, police said.

First-responders found her in cardiac arrest, according to a report. CPR was initiated and she was was transported by ambulance to Rockville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

An initial investigation indicated a pickup truck driven by an "adult male" was traveling northbound on Route 83 and struck her, police said.

At 9:05 p.m., in the area of 1100 Hartford Turnpike, the local address for that stretch of state Route 30, a car collided with the tractor portion of a tractor-trailer, police said. It was not pulling a trailer, police said.
