"Last Friday, the Town responded to a reported gas leak at Lake Street School. Vernon Police, Fire and Public Works swiftly responded and establish a unified command team with the Superintendent of Schools and his staff. As a result, the gas leak was quickly isolated and the building was made safe for repairs. School needed to be dismissed early and the team did an outstanding job coordinating town, school and student transportation resources. Parents and guardians of our students were provided with timely and accurate information. As a result of this teamwork, school was dismissed in an orderly manner and without any further incident. The health and safety of our community is our top priority and the team clearly demonstrated this in their response."
