Vernon Cub Scouts Spread Holiday Cheer to Elderly

Cub scouts from Pack 221 in Vernon, CT were out spreading holiday cheer this week. The scouts sang a variety of holiday songs for residents at White Oaks Senior Living and Retirement Community in Manchester, CT on Tuesday evening. White Oaks resident Julia Wehren looks forward to hearing the scouts perform each year and enjoys the gifts the scouts create for residents.

An important part of scouting is learning to give back to the community. Pack 221 scouts spent an evening making hand-made gifts for the residents which were passed out at the conclusion of the caroling. The pack is currently planning a winter community service project to put together care packages for the homeless in their community. Donations of warm socks, toiletries, granola bars and similar items are welcomed.

Cub Scout Pack 221 meets at Lake Street School in Vernon, CT. Boys in grades 1-5 from Vernon and surrounding towns are welcome to join. Contact Diana Reid at dinmatt@comcast.net or call 860-997-0542 for information about the pack and upcoming service projects.
