Vernon Domestic Incident Featured Fists, A Bat and A Knife: Police

Both a man and a woman were charged for the domestic fight, police said.

VERNON, CT — A man and a woman were charged after a domestic incident at a local apartment complex that involved flying fists, a baseball bat and a knife, police said.

Police were alerted to the incident in Building 4 of Mount Vernon Apartments when 22-year-old Raheela Johnson came to the lobby of police headquarters to say she had fled the residence, according to arrest reports.

She said she was involved in an argument that turned violent with her boyfriend, 23-year-old Ricardo Rivera-Colon, arrest reports indicate.

Johnson said that he hit her in the face and tried to prevent her from leaving several times, according to arrest reports.

In turn, Rivera-Colon said Johnson punched him in the face, hit him with a baseball bat and "poked" him with a knife several times, arrest reports indicate.

They were both arrested, police said.

Rivera-Colon was charged with:

  • Interfering with an emergency call
  • Third-degree assault
  • Second-degree breach of peace
  • Violating a protective order

Johnson was charged with:

  • Third-degree assault
  • Second-degree breach of peace
  • Second-degree threatening
