The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

Affordability. We need to keep our taxes low to make it affordable for people to stay in Vernon in their retirement. Also and keep taxes low to attract businesses to provide jobs and increase our tax base. And at the same time continue to provide services to our residents at the current level or higher.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

20 years experience on the Town Council, intense knowledge of the Town budget and how it works, and knowledge of town Departments and how they operate and interact with citizens. Intense desire to provide the best Vernon as possible without disrupting our Citizen's life's.

Accomplishments:

Voting to not increase the mill rate the last 3 years. Participated on the new Turf Field committee, oversaw the successful move of the Rockville Public library to a town department from the committee perspective, led the Saxony Dog Park committee bringing a highly used citizen desired facility to fruition, and and many votes for smart purchase of town vehicles including the roll out trash and recycling bins.

Other issues:

Quality of life in Vernon is important meaning keeping infrastructure intact and up to date..

We need to interact with Vernon non-profits to help them, when possible, succeed in their mission. This does not necessarily include direct taxpayer funding, and but more cooperation in grants and events and other parts of their activities and programs which benefit Vernon residents. Refuse and recycling will start to be a problem for all towns not just Vernon. I am pushing our town to give more thought to how we handle our trash and recycling effectively and efficiently and at as low a cost as possible.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

Involved in many groups in our community, The Strong Family Farm, the New England Civil War Museum, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the Knights of Columbus and the Cornerstone Foundation. Being involved in these community groups gives me insight into other groups and how they interact with the Citizens and their needs.
