Vernon Firefighter Finds Driver Slumped Over Wheel Of Car

The driver of a white Mercedes was charged with drunken driving after a Vernon firefighter found him slumped over the steering wheel.

VERNON, CT — An on-duty Vernon firefighter found a driver slumped over the steering wheel of his Mercedes on a busy road in town last week, a report indicates.

Police made the report available Monday.

The firefighter discovered the stopped car at 3:18 a.m. on West Street near the Tracy Drive intersection, according to the report. He tried to wake up the driver, a 39-year-old West Hartford man, and, once he did wake up, the driver pulled away from the firefighter at a low rate of speed, according to the report.

Police located the car, a white Mercedes-Benz, a short distance away and took the driver into custody, police said. He was charged with a lane violation and driving under the influence.
