Vernon Man Charged with 'Intentional' Cruelty
An assault investigation involving serious injuries has led to an 'intentional' cruelty charge on a Vernon man, police said.

VERNON, CT — An assault investigation has led to a felony intentional cruelty charge against a 30-year-old Vernon man, police said.
Joseph Vega was arrested at 10:22 a.m. on Tuesday afternoon at his home on Oak Street, police said. The victim in the case lives on Cottage Street, according to a report.
The victim is a woman who has a relationship with Vega and she had sustained serious injuries, police said in a report.

Vega was charged with intentional cruelty to persons, second-degree unlawful restraint, disorderly conduct and second-degree assault, according to an arrest report.
Vegas was held overnight on a $250,000 bond and was to appear in court Wednesday, police said.

Cruelty to persons is defined in Connecticut as:
"Any person who intentionally tortures, torments or cruelly or unlawfully punishes another person or intentionally deprives another person of necessary food, clothing, shelter or proper physical care shall be guilty of a class D felony."
A Class D felony carries a possible sentence of one to five years in prison.
