VERNON, CT — The Vernon man found murdered on a stretch of Route 2 on Tuesday had recently completed a 25-month sentence on a weapons conviction, judicial system records show.
Jermaine Williams 23, whose address is listed in police records as being in Vernon, was found dead at about 3:30 a.m., according to state police.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and determined that the man was dead from a homicide. He was later identified as Williams, state police said.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine a cause of death, state police said.
In August 2016, Williams was sentenced to 25 months in jail on a conviction for carrying a dangerous weapon, according to judicial system records. Vernon police said Wednesday the conviction stemmed from Williams being arrested for that charge on May 7, 2016.
According to an arrest report, at 3:26 p.m., a patrol officer saw a black Nissan cut off oncoming traffic as it made a left-hand turn from Union Street onto Orchard Street. The car was stopped on Orchard Street and police noticed a marijuana smell coming from inside. A loaded pellet gun was found on Williams, according to a report.
