Vernon Man Gets Added Charges After Court Comments

A Vernon man was charged with violating protective and restraining orders after allegedly relaying 'harassing' remarks in court.

VERNON, CT — A Vernon man was charged with violating protective and restraining orders after directing remarks toward a victim's relatives audible enough for a prosecutor to hear while in Rockville Superior Court on domestic violence charges, state police said in a warrant.

Daniel Levander 34, of Vernon, was arrested Sept. 1, appeared in court three days later and is free on a $100,000 bond in the domestic case and a $1,000 bond for the court order violation case, judicial system records show. He is due back before a judge on Sept. 19, records show.

The protective and restraining orders were violated at a hearing on Aug. 22, according to a warrant. Levander was in court that day and was scheduled to be called fourth, a warrant states.

He had a motion to have an ankle monitor removed denied and was apparently upset, according to a warrant. He was seated in the audience near relatives of the victim in the case and allegedly directed remarks toward them, according to a warrant.

The prosecutor in the courtroom overheard the remarks, asked the judge to pause, and requested that a note be made in Levander's case that he was "harassing the victim's family," according to a warrant.
