HOPKINTON, MA — The Connecticut man who died after being struck by a tractor-trailer on a Massachusetts highway Monday night while clearing snow from his vehicle's windshield was from Vernon, authorities said.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the incident took place at 11:15 p.m. on the westbound side of Interstate 90 near the 104.6-mile marker in Hopkinton. Massachusetts. State police had received calls for a reported pedestrian struck by a commercial vehicle. The incident turned out to be fatal.

The victim was identified by state police as 35-year-old Patrick Sarpong of Vernon. Sarpong had stopped on the edge of the highway to clear snow from his vehicle when a passing tractor-trailer struck him, Massachusetts state police said.

Emergency responders from the Westborough Fire Department and regional medical services treated Sarpong at the scene before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, authorities said.
