Vernon Obituary: Amelia Grasso, 80

Condolences to her family and friends.

Amelia Ann Grasso, 80, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on the night of October 10th, 2017.

She was born on September 25th, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Teresa Guarino and Nicholas Castellano. Albert Grasso met Amelia when she was 15 and the two married when she was 19 on June 29th, 1957 at Saint Michael’s Church in Newark. Throughout childhood, Amelia worked at her father’s shop where she made Italian cheese by hand.

Amelia graduated from William H. Turner Technical Arts High School and earned a degree in Nursing. Following this, she worked as a nurse at Hartford Hospital for several years before turning her attention to sales in both fashion and jewelry.

Despite a busy schedule, Amelia was also a very talented artist who enjoyed both painting and drawing. The ties within Amelia’s family were strong. One of nine children, her siblings included: Freddie, Maria, Joseph, Eugene, Anna, Jeanie, Helen, and Patty.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Albert Grasso of Vernon, her children, Michael Grasso (59) of Henderson, Nevada, and Kathleen Pratt (57) of Newtown, and her cherished granddaughter, Elizabeth Pratt (17) also of Newtown.

She was fiercely loyal to her family and would stop at nothing to provide and care for them. Amelia always made sure her efforts sought to reach her goals; there were no boundaries to her love.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 2-5 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017, 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor.
