Vernon Obituary: Barry Obedzinski, 99

Condolences to his family and friends.

Barry Henry Obedzinski, 99, of Vernon, passed away on July 10, 2017 while at Fox Hill Medical Center.

He was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Walter and Stella (Stankiewicz) Obedzinski on February 11, 1918. He moved to Hartford at sixteen years old. Seven years later he would marry the love of his life, Catherine {Wynn}, spending 46 wonderful years together until her death in 1987.

Barry served our country in the United States Army during WWII as a combat infantryman in Italy, earning four campaign battle stars and the combat infantryman’s badge. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the Battle of Anzio Beach. He served with the 168th infantry regiment of the 34th “Red Bull” division.

Barry moved to Vernon in 1956 where he has resided ever since; serving as a founding member and Post Commander, and lifetime member of the Vernon VFW. Barry was always a hardworking, selfless man, holding two jobs to support his family, only retiring to take care of his ailing wife.

He was tolerant, steadfast, and never wavered in his love for his children, even when they tested his limits. Later in life he found enjoyment visiting the Rockville Senior Center where he would shoot pool and became quite the Wii Bowler.

Barry is survived by his son, Dennis Obedzinski and his wife, Joyce of Valrico, Florida; daughter, Suzanne Obedzinski of Manchester; grandchildren Shane, Audra, Nicole, Devin, Savanna, Rose; great grandchildren Parker, Lexi, Maverick, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Henry and Herman; his sisters, Stella, Jeanne, Lucy; granddaughter, Lisa; great grandchildren, Aiden and Everitt.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon from 9 - 11 am concluding with services held at the funeral home at 11 am. Burial will be private at the request of his family.

In lieu of flowers donations in Barry’s memory may be made to the Vernon Senior Center, 26 Park Pl, Vernon, CT 06066.
