Vernon Obituary: Donald Waudby, 82

Condolences to his family and friends.

Donald “Don” Waudby, 82, of Vernon and formerly of Ellington, beloved husband to Elaine (White) Waudby, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 with his family at his side.

Born in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late Clell and Helen (Cole) Waudby, he grew up in Perry, Iowa and lived in different parts of the country before settling in Ellington where he lived for 43 years, moving to Vernon three years ago. Don earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Drake University in Des Moines, IA in 1957 and was employed by Aetna Life & Casualty in the Property and Casualty Division for 35 years.

He enjoyed spending time in New Hampshire where he had a vacation home. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed helping others. Don loved skiing, bicycling, traveling and being in the outdoors. His favorite saying was “Everyday is a good day, but some days are better than others”. He was a volunteer at Foodshare for over 10 years.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children, Cathleen Peck and her husband David of Ellington, David Waudby and his wife Jennifer of Alexandria, VA, and Susan Waudby and her fiancé Geoff Schultz of Marlborough, MA; his grandson, Ethan Peck of Ellington; his sister, Norma Bryant of Perry, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Wednesday, January 31, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 141 Maple Street, Ellington. Interment will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don’s memory may be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or a charity of your choice.
