Vernon Obituary: Ethel Hansen, 97

Condolences to her family and friends.

Ethel (Kingston) Hansen, 97, of Ellington, beloved wife of the late Frederick P. Hansen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Woodlake at Tolland with her family at her side.

Born in Rockville, the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude (Preusse) Kingston, she grew up and lived in Rockville before moving to Ellington over 40 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1983, Ethel was employed by the former Allen, Russell & Allen Insurance Company in Hartford for 40 years. She was a longtime member of Union CongregationalChurch in Rockville. She was a member of the Hope Chapter #60, Order of the Eastern Star, and was the former Chaplain for the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star of Connecticut. Ethel was a member of the Ellington Senior Center, and was an avid crafter.

She is survived by her son, Frederick Hansen of Tolland; three granddaughters, Jennifer Von Elm and her husband Roger, Amy Santo and her husband Leo, and Krystn Ledoux and her husband Dave; six great grandchildren; her sister, Mildred Larson of Vernon and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in- law, Evelyn Hansen, and her sister, Mildred Miner.

Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Funeral services will be held at Union Congregational Church, 3 Elm Street, Rockville on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Rockville.

Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Ellington Senior Center, P. O. Box 187, Ellington, CT 06029 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
