Vernon Obituary: Fernanda Cruz, 88

Fernanda (Albuquerque) Cruz, 88, of Vernon joined her beloved husband in heaven on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Fernanda was the loving wife for 68 years of the late Joao Goncalves Cruz.

Born on December 2, 1928 in Barbeita, Viseu Portugal, Fernanda and her family moved to the U.S. in 1967 where she worked for several years at the former Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) in Hartford, retiring in 1993.

Fernanda was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She loved her family dearly and spending time with them, was devout in her faith, and enjoyed praying the rosary.

She is survived by her five children, Joe Goncalves and wife Germana of Portugal, Odete Carlos of Port St. Lucie, FL, John Goncalves and wife Emilia of So. Windsor, Fred Goncalves of Niantic, and Sal Cruz and wife Patricia of Vernon; her ten grandchildren, Anabela, Sandra, Elizabeth, Johnny, Silvia, Elisa, Alicia, Anthony, Adam, and Gabrielle; seven great grandchildren, Daniel, Sara, Ricky, Massimo, Samuel, Sebastian, and Mila.

Calling hours will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 5 – 8 p.m. at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Vernon. Burial will follow in Valley Falls Cemetery, Vernon.
