Vernon Obituary: Geraldine Strong, 96

Condolences to her family and friends.

Geraldine Risley Strong, 96, wife of the late Norman Randall Strong, passed away on March 1, 2018, peacefully at home.

Born in Manchester, she lived in Vernon since the age of ten. Daughter of the late Gerald Richard and Irene Nettleton Risley, she worked at the former Savings Bank of Tolland where she progressed from teller to Assistant Secretary and then became Treasurer of the bank at a time where few women where bank officers.

She was an active lifelong member and deaconess of the First Congregational Church of Vernon, an 82 year member of Vernon Grange and belonged to New Haven Colony, National Society of New England Women. She was an Organizing Member of Capt. Noah Grant Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and proud of her Risley and Hotchkiss lineage.

She leaves her daughters, Carol Strong Nelson and Nancy Edna Strong of Vernon and son Morgan George Strong (Karen) of Ferrum, VA and her sister Gail Risley Brewer of Lakeport, NH. Grandchildren Michael Jon Nelson (Tenley) of Norwich and Jennifer Nelson Strong (Scott Coffin) of Edmonds, WA. Great-grandchildren Christian and Stefan Schirmer and Addison Nelson and has many loving and caring nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Grace Risley, George Risley, Gladys Steele, and Gilbert Risley.

Calling hours will be held at Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon on Friday, March 9th from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will take place at the First Congregational Church of Vernon on Saturday, March 10th at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Cemetery Road in Vernon.
