Vernon Obituary: Julius Beer, 100

Condolences to his family and friends.

Julius H. Beer, 100, beloved husband of the late Florence (Preuss) Beer, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016.

He was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1916 to Julius and Louise (Theil) Beer. At a very young age, Julius moved with his family to Rockville, where they owned and operated the Liberty Bakery for many years. He was also employed by Boston Bakery in Rockville until his retirement.

Julius was an avid skier and also enjoyed cycling, walking his dog around Shenipsit Lake, fishing, and grilling the best steaks at the family cottage at Coventry Lake. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vernon, the Sons of Hermann German Society, and the Vernon Historical Society.

Julius was a devoted father and grandfather and will be missed by his children, Virginia Pagani of Glastonbury, Julius Beer and his wife Patti of South Glastonbury, Christina Machnich of Glastonbury, and Shirley Gottier and her husband Dale of Ellington, grandchildren David Pagani, Christopher Pagani, Julie Horton, Matthew Beer, Christopher Machnich, Katherine Machnich, Jason Gottier, and Nicole Gottier, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude Beer, and a son-in-law, Christopher Machnich. Julius also leaves his many good friends at the Francis J. Pitkat Congregate Living Center, where he resided for over ten years.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the Beer family at a memorial service to be held on Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Meadowlark Road, Vernon.
