Vernon Obituary: Margaret Pionzio, 81

Condolences to her family and friends.

Margaret (Margo) Hogan Pionzio, 81, of Ellington, beloved wife of John Nils Pionzio, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016.

She was born January 21, 1935 in New Haven, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (O'Connell) Hogan. She lived in Vernon for 39 years before moving to Ellington 14 years ago. Margo attended CCSU and New Britain General Nursing School where she received a degree as a registered nurse. She was employed at Rockville General, New Britain General and Hartford Hospitals as a registered nurse before retiring. She volunteered for many years as a member of the Rockville Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She took great pride in raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Besides her husband John, she is survived by a son, John Nils Pionzio, Jr. and his wife, Melissa of East Hampton; three daughters, Meg Pionzio Jarvi and her husband, Steven of Boston, MA, Jane Pionzio DeWitt and her husband, David of Hopedale, MA, Marney Pionzio Welch of Hopedale, MA; a sister, Mary Jane Lawlor of Wallingford, CT; eight grandchildren, Laura Jarvi, Katharine Jarvi, Jess DeWitt, Annie DeWitt, Jennifer Pionzio, John N. Pionzio, III, Liam Welch and Isabel Welch. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Thomas Hogan.

Margaret's family will receive friends Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 2-4 PM at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 7, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Church, 141 Maple St. (Rt. 140), Ellington. Burial will be in Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington.
