Vernon Obituary: Martina Oltheten, 98

Condolences to her family and friends.

Martina B. “Oma” Oltheten, 98, of Vernon, beloved wife of Joseph Oltheten, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 03, 2018.

Born in East Java, Indonesia, she was raised in Indonesia and lived most of her life in Bloomfield before settling in Vernon. Martina and her husband were devout Catholics that attended Mass daily and were members of Christ The King Church in Bloomfield as well as St. Gertrude Church in Windsor.

She was a “professional mother” who always took care of her family and even the other children in the neighborhood. She loved to cook and always hosted Sunday brunch for her family. She was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball and loved going to her grandchildrens’ sporting events.

Besides her husband Joseph, she is survived by her sons, Joseph Oltheten and his wife Helen of Elliottsburg, PA, Peter Oltheten of West Hartford, Raymond Oltheten and his wife Penni of Madison, AL; her daughters, Maria Oltheten of Vernon, Yvonne Schreiner and her late husband Robert of Brookline, MA, Christine Jones and her husband Kenneth of Hampstead, NC, Edie Baj and her husband Marty of South Windsor; her grandchildren, Julie Oldham and her husband William, Robert Schreiner and his wife Erika, Lisa Bakaysa and her husband Joseph, Stephen Schreiner and his wife Ana, Erika Jones, Kevin Jones and fiancée Marilyn DeSesa, Stephanie Baj, Michelle Baj and her great-grandchildren, Isabel, Emily, Mackenzie, Keegan and Sydney.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, August 6 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 7 at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave Bloomfield, followed by burial in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
