Vernon Obituary: Robert Schoff, 83

Condolences to his family and friends.

Robert “Bob” M. Schoff , 83, of Ashford, passed away Sunday June 3, 2018 at Johnson Memorial Hospital.

He was born on December 20, 1934 in Woodsville, NH to Haines K. and Phyllis M. (Bailey) Schoff. Bob graduated from Woodsville High in 1952. He attended SNHU and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Boston MA.

He worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford as an Electronic Tech & Engineering Aide for his entire career. Bob was also a volunteer fireman at Vernon Fire Department for many years, known by many as “Scuffy”.

Always known as a dedicated loyal Hartford Whalers and Boston Bruins fan, along with a serious interest in trains, that took him on many rail travel trips. Bob was an avid wildlife enthusiast, his motto “Any excuse to be outside.”

A dear friend once wrote, “work and achievement was his pleasure and being in the outdoors was his love.” Best known as, “A Trail Worker Extraordinaire” in which he showed his dedication for over thirty years volunteering for the following organizations: Connecticut Section of Green Mountain Club, CT Appalachian Mountain Club, CT Forest & Parks Assn, Goodwin Forest, Geneva Point, Lakes Region NH, Northern CT Land Trust, Providence & Worcester Rail Club, Joshua Trust, CT Trails Day Events, and Connecticut Audubon.

Bob is survived by his two sisters, Barbara Dickerman of Boscawen, NH and Ruth Pratt (Dave) of Saxtons River, VT and his beloved nieces and nephews: Sheila, Rick, Liz, Jackie, Dee, Art, Marilyn, Diane, Vic, Darlene, Paul, Philip, Chad along with 25 grand-nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Kathyrn E. Maurer and Judith Gero.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson Street (Rt 195) Willimantic, followed by a burial at Westford Hill Cemetery, Ashford.
